recipient and so it was crucial to have St Annibale de Francia,
an expert in mystical theology, to have known Luisa- he spoke
so highly of her and gave the imprimatur to the first 19 volumes.
A modem theologian who successfully defended a thesis on
this at the Gregorian University was Fr Joseph Iannuzzi. It was
called The gift of Living in the Divine Will in the writings of Luisa
Piccarreta: an inquiry into the early ecumenical councils and
patristic, scholastic and contemporary theology.
We need to understand that scripture shows a progression of
gifts God gives the human race. Eg in John “I tell you, among
those born of women no one is greater than John; yet the least
in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” And Matt 11:12
adds- the Kingdom of Heaven is subject to violence and the
violent are taking it by storm. The latter explains the early
commotion some promoters of the Divine Will caused when
promoted outside a solid biblical and theological context.
Another important thing to note is the place of prophecy &
private revelation. 1 Corinthians 12:28 says “And God has
placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third
teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of
guidance, and of different kinds of tongues”. Note the second
place of prophecy, we rarely see this in Catholic circles today- I
suggest. Luisa’s writings are prophetic. Note, how this gift of
prophecy was used by Jesus also in Jesus’ ministry eg Woman
at the well (Jn 4) and the call of the 12 Apostles Lk 5:9.
So let’s turn to Luisa Piccarreta. At age 13 Luisa hears
commotion outside her window, sees Jesus carrying a cross
saying “soul help me”. That’s when it all really started. She had
limited vocabulary but the writings show extraordinary
theological breadth. Age of 16 she was a victim soul and
desired to suffer for Jesus. At night her soul would leave her
