comes to the tiniest of places call Alveoli where the blood
gets so close to the air, separated but only tiniest layer of
“skin”, so oxygen can pass into the blood supply and by
product carbon dioxide pass out. This is truly a mystery how
does the cell wall know how to do this?
This represents powerfully our spiritual life- where is the barrier
between us and God? Or between us and other people. The
important point is that the air is not separated or processed
intimately until the air comes right into that smallest of
places. So to in our everyday life as Christians we love other
people as we love
ourselves (John 15:12)
but not to a “confusion”
of identity. We sacrifice
and die for them, like
Jesus on the Cross but
in our deep life of
prayer, in those intimate
times, we must know
when to draw the
identity line so to speak. When do we distinguish our
vocation (will) and calling from them (their will). When do we
take the oxygen of God and surrender responsibility for them
over to themselves. We read in Ps 147: He has not dealt
thus with other nations; he has not taught them his decrees.
This is like that point in your breath where the Oxygen of God’s
love flows into your spiritual lungs. It’s interesting that your
lungs have seven branches before they reach the Alveoli
(Truchea, Primary Bronchi, Secondary Bronchi, Tertiary
Bronchi, Bronchioles, Alveroli duct and then Alveoli) this is
like St Theresa Avila seven Mansions of the Interior Castle to
get to Mystical Marriage. See Vol 3 Feb passage below.
I compare it to going through your day mixing within secular
society like Jesus did but then coming to that silent time at
